Tibet is located in the highest region of the world, which is why it is often referred to as the ‘Roof of the World’. The capital, Lhasa, is home to the world Heritage site of Potala Palace, once the winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. Gyantse is a tradtional Tibetan town and is famous for its wool and carpet production. Whist Tibet is off the normal tourist trail, vistors will receive a warm welcome from the locals.

The severe climatic conditions and great discrepancy in daily and seasonal temperatures are due mainly to the high altitude. Mid-spring, summer and early autumn get rather warm. Early spring gets cold, especially in the mornings and at night. A similar climatic situation applies to the late autumn and winter months.
